Mermaid Maritime PCL serves the offshore oil and gas industry in Southeast Asia and recently expanded its subsea services to China, India, the Middle East, Brazil, and the United Kingdom Continental Shelf. Mermaid’s operational base is in Chonburi, Thailand, and it has established shore base support functions in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Jakarta in Indonesia, Singapore, and Qatar in the Middle East; to support its geographical expansion. Mermaid operates principally through two business segments, offshore drilling services and subsea engineering services, using a fleet of subsea support vessels and drilling rigs.
On 26 March 2012, Mermaid’s specialist DP2 vessel M.V. 'Mermaid Sapphire' successfully joined the historic expedition to the Mariana Trench's lowest point, the ‘Challenger Deep’, which lies 6.83 miles (10.99 km) below the ocean surface, set out by iconic film director and National Geographic explorer-in-residence James Cameron.
The expedition is the first extensive scientific exploration in a manned submersible of the Mariana Trench. M.V. 'Mermaid Sapphire' carried James Cameron, his crew and the 'DeepSea Challenger', a purpose-built hi-tech craft that took the famed Canadian film maker to the deepest point on the world’s floor!
